STUNT - Circus Project

STUNT is one of the very first projects all first-year students go through — an intense, one-week collaborative experience where the entire class of around 60 students creates a full performance together.

The premise is simple but challenging: everything must be built from trash and discarded materials. No new materials allowed. The theme for our year was circus, which gave us a playful and chaotic framework to experiment within.

Working in a smaller group, we designed and built a giant dragon as part of the show. Using only found and recycled materials, we constructed a large-scale sculptural figure that became a central visual element in the performance. The process involved rapid ideation, hands-on building, improvisation, and constant problem-solving under time pressure.

Because of the limited timeframe and material constraints, the project pushed us to:

  • Think creatively with what was available

  • Collaborate efficiently in large and small groups

  • Let go of perfection and embrace experimentation

  • Transform “waste” into spectacle

STUNT is less about polish and more about energy, teamwork, and making something ambitious in a very short time. As one of the first projects in the program, it sets the tone for working physically, collaboratively, and fearlessly with materials.
