The Forest of the Huldra — Interactive Installation
In The Forest of the Huldra, we created an interactive installation exhibited at Deichman. The project combined storytelling, physical computing, and spatial design to create a mysterious, immersive experience inspired by Nordic folklore.
The installation consisted of three interconnected elements:
-
A book with a portal — inviting visitors to “enter” another world
-
A book with a garden — a tactile, layered landscape that hinted at hidden life
-
A fog chamber box — an atmospheric space filled with mist, light, and subtle sound
All three parts were connected through interaction. When visitors touched silver elements embedded in the installation, the entire system responded: lights activated, sounds played, and the space transformed. The interaction was built using Micro Bit microcontrollers, allowing us to program responsive behaviors and synchronize the different components.
The project explored:
-
Physical interaction and sensory feedback
-
Tangible storytelling
-
Atmosphere and mystery through light, sound, and material
-
The intersection of technology and craft
This installation challenged us to think beyond screens — designing an experience that was felt physically and emotionally. It strengthened my skills in prototyping, electronics, and creating immersive, narrative-driven design.
